Women's Daily life on the Pamir Summer Pastures
Description
[During the summer] we used to go up to pasture chiraga [to Shuijerab and Shimshal Pass on Pamir] with our mothers where we made lassi (waey) with them. We also gave them a massage and helped them in other ways. When we went up on those difficult mountain paths, we used to carry our children on our backs. We milked the animals every morning and evening to make yogurt and cheeses which we brought back home when we returned [to Shimshal]. We also went all the way to Shur and we celebrated the traditional Mirgachi Rasam (tradition) at Boliore. When we went to Boliore, we called all men and women together, tied young and old yaks together and blessed them for the Rasam.
When our mothers returned [from the summer pasture] we welcomed them and learned all the stories how our mothers and grandmothers have overcome multiple difficulties. On that occasion, we used to cross the river on our feet using only a stone plank as we went to the other side to bring our yaks back [to Shimshal].
