Whistling for Wind from the Khusar Gang Glacier

Description

The third tale is about the Shigar's largest glacier, the Khusar Gang, which supplies water to four or five streams and is therefore a very important source of water for agriculture in Shigar. The tale about this glacier related to the wind that is necessary for effective separation of the chaff from the grain after harvest at threshing. As there is less wind in Shigar compared to Skardu, people had to stay in the fields for 10-12 days. They then would face towards Khusar Gang and whistle. Whistles that reached far and pleased the fairies in Khusar Gang would bring winds helping to separate the chaff from the grain. Now, in the modern era, people use machines for threshing, so they do not rely on Khusar Gang or whistling anymore bringing thus this ancient tradition to an end.
