Naming of Gilgit

Description

In different eras, different tribes ruled in Gilgit such as the Yashkuns, Burusho and Shina. At last, the Shina ruled in Gilgit therefore the Shina language predominates there, but before there also ruled the Burusho. During my school time in a place called Kashrote we grew rice. Because the rice grew right after winter the area turned green quickly. Because of that greenery there were many ibex on this side of the mountain but we did not have weapons for hunting them, except for stones. As the vegetation further developed, the ibex came to eat with their offspring who even danced there. In the language of the Burusho, we call the green fields girigiratas. Girigiratas developed to girghrath, and girghrath to Gilgit. Similarly, there is a place in Yasin called Shikam mal whichi Burushaski means "˜green field'. Until today Burushaski is still used in Hunza, Nagar and Yaseen Valley.
