The Nouroz Festival with Ushaar

Description

I am from Barmas and 99 years old. In our region, we celebrate the Nourouz81 festival since ancient times. On this day, people of all ages gather in one place and bring ushaar from their homes. Ushaar refers to a mixture of many edible items such as roasted wheat mixed with mulberries, dried apricots, dried grapes, walnuts, almonds, sweets, and many other things, which makes Nouroz special. This ushaar is then collected in one place, and given to small children. In this ritual, children aged between 2 months and 2 years are placed on the back of an elderly person from the neighbourhood, usually a grandfather or a grandmother. The elderly person then touches the chil-dren to the ushaar three times which is called daada. This is how until today the daada ceremony is celebrated on Nouroz in Gilgit. Finally, someone distributes the ushaar among the children and adults, and everyone eats it together.
