The Crane's Gratitude
Description
Once upon a time in our village there was a couple named Jaman and Lala. They were quite famous as in our Cholistan region, countless stories of their love were told and everyone knew that husband and wife loved each other very much. One day, Lala became very sick and she was taken to the [traditional] village doctor (hakim) for a check-up. When the doctor saw Lala's condition, he said that a cure for her illness was only in the feathers of a Demoiselle crane (koonj), and the medicine could thus only be obtained from this bird. Jaman decided he would not go hunting for this bird because it is [an essential] part of the beauty of Cholistan. He strongly believed in keeping a balance with nature and thus felt unable to destroy nature even for the love of his life. So instead of hunting, Jaman decided to cure her in other ways, such as by his prayers.
One day, a koonj approached Jaman and placed its two feathers in front of him, because the bird knew about his wife's illness. Thereafter, Lala was treated with these feathers and was cured. From that day onward, Jaman dedicated his life to protecting this bird.
