The Hidden Treasure

Description

During summers Belahur's uncle and his friends went to the pastures. When it darkened on their way they decided to stay until morning so that they could take a rest and continue their walk in daylight. They decided to sleep beneath a rock. As they were sleeping the uncle heard the sound of a buzzing bee which distracted him from sleep. As this happened two to three times, he got angered and decided to kill the bee. When he woke up he noticed the bee sound was coming from a small hole. He wanted to kill the bee by closing the hole with a stone, but when he approached the hole he discovered something strange: something was shining and [when he searched further] he discovered clay pots filled with gold coins, precious beads, and some clothes. In the morning, he did not tell anyone about his discovery and left things as they were. When he returned [to the same location] in the following year and tried to find those clay pots again, he saw that the clay pots were in similar condition as he had left them. This time he told his story to his mother and he and his mother brought all the coins home at night. In the morning villagers heard about the treasure and came to see them. The old mother distributed some coins to her loved and close ones. Her son gave a dress to one of his cousins, and as she wore the dress she felt a high temperature and severe fever. As she thought all this was happening due to wearing this cloth, she put the cloth on fire but it remained unburned. The mother used to wear a black agate necklace sulemani aqeeq which produced bird sounds every Friday. One day the mother and another woman quarreled and the necklace broke and fell into a canal near to them, she tried to find it but could not. The mother had a pregnant daughter, and when she went to the room where they kept the remaining treasure, suddenly the beads and coins started to jump. When the daughter had lost all her nine children, villagers came to the woman and said that all this had happened because of the treasure and that she must sacrifice an animal but she didn't. Finally with prayers and amulets her last son was saved. One day Belahur's uncle got sick in his old age and it took many hours to reach any hospital or physician (Hakeem). All family members went with him to the next village to see the doctor, but unfortunately he died on his way. When they returned back to their home there the treasure had vanished, no one knew who stole the coins and beads, but villagers believed, as they found the treasure unusual, it must have been taken by a ghost jamale.
