The Shaman Betan Melo

Description

Once upon a time there was a shaman named Melo from Shanokshal. He had different powers, he gave predi-cations and advice to people, and he was able to see the Jinns at all places from Chilganish to Shanokshal to Buldas. During a festival called Thumushaling35 where everybody danced and sang, everyone gathered in Ganish including Melo. When the Desi Hareep music started Melo saw a devil woman coming from the Nagar side and sitting on a willow tree. She took the head of 12 people and left, but nobody saw this event except for Melo who, however, remained silent on the matter. Exactly one year later, 12 young men died. [At that time] Melo again saw that same devil woman while he was going to lock up his animals in a yard at some distance from his house. He asked her what she was doing and where she came from. Subsequently, he hit her with a stick and said: "Last year you took the heads of 12 young men and killed them, why do you come here again and attack us? She said: I will not come again, I will leave. The next day, he saw that woman again. He said: Once again you have come?" Again he hit her and tied her up with the help of a big stone, sticks, and special prayers forever.
