The Lost Yak of Vilyor
Description
The tale of the place called Wuljo goes as follows and it happened during the time of the Mir Kings25: Boo Singh used to be our father's grandfather who one day has lost one of his yaks. He looked for it for months but could not find it. One day, after a long walk, he reached Wuljo and fell asleep when suddenly someone called him in his dream and said that the yak was under a rock. Boo Singh woke up confused and went a little further on, looking here and there, but did not find his animal. As he went back to sleep, he heard the voice again. He woke up and went a little further when he suddenly saw his yak lying under a rock. He also discovered melting yak fat flowing to the ground from where he tried to pick it up. The yak did not [want to] move away and thus Boo Singh continued and eventually reached a place called Ruiwurth where he took a little rest before he met some village elders. He asked them for help and together they slaughtered the injured yak and brought the meat home. Thereafter, that place was named Yachtash and we go there every year. We take our yaks there, cut the [holding] ropes and cele-brate their release for grazing. Our children enjoy a lot to be there as we make bread for them. Until today our men take yaks to Yachtash and return on yaks to the village and this is [all about] how this ritual started.
