The Milk Fountain
Description
In the glorious name of Allah Almighty, I heard this old tale from my father, he from his father and my grand-father and so on. Once upon a time there was a spring where nowadays the government has constructed a water tank to provide the residents with water. In the old days it was known that milk would came from that spring instead of water and this is why people of Barmas are locally referred to as dudai-Barmas1. As time passed and population grew more and more, people started bathing there. Women used to comb their hair and wash dirty clothes whereby the place became dirtier and the milk converted into normal water. There used to be a fairy with her son at that spring. As she was busy combing her hair, an old man silently picked her son and went away. Seeing this, the fairy warned the old man not to take her son and told him that if he ever took away her son, he must take good care of him otherwise this would bring bad luck to him. As the old man ignored her and took her son away she cursed the man if her child got hurt he would not be able to continue his generation but if he took good care of him he would be rewarded such that soil in his hand would convert into gold. The man brought the son of the fairy to his home. As times passed, the native people came to know that the old man had brought a son of a fairy. The people insisted with the old man that they wanted to see and meet the son of the fairy, but subsequently there was a quarrel, the son got killed and a shrine, still visible today, was built to his honour.
