The Aged Parents of the Haparing Mountains
Description
There was a tradition in Goharabad to push aged parents off a deep cliff near the Haparing Mountain as the villagers thought their old parents were useless and just ate their food. One day a man took his mother to the Haparing Mountain, but when he was about to push down his mother, he suddenly noticed that his mother was chewing something. He inquired what it was that she chewed. She replied: It is a black bean which I put in my mouth three days ago. The son wondered how it was possible that the aged parents would waste food if his mother was not able to eat even a single bean and took his mother [ashamed] back home. From that day no one threw his parents off the cliff near the Haparing Mountain.
One day a ruler ordered the people to make a rope from sand and in return offered many coins. Everybody was shocked about how it would be possible to make a rope with sand. When people started to think about the issue one of the villagers secretly went to his old father. When the latter noticed that his son was worried he asked for the reasons. The son told him that their king had ordered to make a sand rope. The poor old father answered that his son should tell the king to make only two feet of the desired rope [as a sample], then the rest would be managed. The next day, the son went to the king and asked him to please make only two feet of sand rope as a sample then [his father and him] would proceed onward. The ruler understood he had aged parents in his village who gave clever ideas and from that people did not throw their elders off the cliff.
