The Origin of the World

Description

I am Wazir Feroz from Mehdiabad, Kharmang. I worked on Radio Pakistan for approximately 35 years, where I used to host Balti programs. Now, I am working on social media for Siachen Times where I focus on "Kharmang Through the Lens of History". Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my experiences with you. Indeed, there are many folk tales in the Balti language, also about agriculture which is the reason for the creation of the [cultivated] land. The creation of this world is also related to agriculture as our forefather Adam was expelled from paradise due to an agricultural issue. Here is a famous tale in the Balti language called "Somalak." When we were young we often watched what is called tanmo (in Balti), where two groups would compete. One group would sing a song, and the other group would respond. When everything finished, we would ask each other soomalk. Some say this means 100 questions and 100 answers making it the science of the universe. For example, it was discussed what the world was made of. In soomalk someone answered: This world comes from the blue sea. Apart from this blue sea, what else was needed? Someone in soomalk said: The dust around the blue sea. What else is it made from? Soomalk asks. The answer was that it was made from dust and sand. Someone asked again: Dust and sand, that is, from the companionship of dust and sand, what else it is made from? After the first question was answered that it was made from dust and sand, it was asked again: Dust and sand, thus, there is a companionship of the upper, the lower, and the middle. This gives the world its name.
